  1. It is an awesome thing to put in the position that you have always dreamed of but it is important not to let the title that you have to go to your head. There are many people who are in positions and yet they are not very personal. They just give commands and that’s all and therefore, they tend to have really bad relationships with those who are following them. Sadly, a lot of people tend to stay at this level which is known as the position level.
In the next level, The Permission Level, you actually have people that want to build a relationship with those they are leading. On this level people don’t do what you say just because they have to but they want to. They want to because the leader listens, observe, and learn. They show compassion for those who are under them and they are willing to serve and not just be served only.
The third level, The Production Level, is where you get the best results. The leader becomes a partaker in matters rather just handing out demands. They become active in getting results and because of them being an example; it creates a momentum for those under them. Due to this momentum, it eliminated a lot of problems.
At level four the workers or mentees go through a development process. The leader gives an assignment, gives a demonstration of how to do it, allows the employee or mentee to do it with them, and leaves them to it after that. Once the person has become completely comfortable the goal is for them to get to the point where they can teach someone else. The company grows and the individual gains experience as well. The leader is pretty much developing leaders when they get to this level.
Last but not least is the respect level. At this level you have built such a great relationship with those under you that things just run smoothly. Everyone works without having to be told to do so; they just do it because they enjoy their environment. Sadly, there are still people working under others that are there to do their job and get out. However, we can all get to this point if we work at it. The only reason that people don’t get here is because they don’t work at it.

  2. I enjoyed watching the 5 levels of leadership it really is a eye opener. After watching this video their is alot that sticks out to me like in level one when he said the position doesnt make you a leader. I have seen it many times people with the position or title but they dont know how to lead effectively. Being a leader doesn't come with the title and we see it all in church's everywhere where people are in positions where they are supposed to be leader but can't because they refuse to follow the greatest example of a Leader we will ever have and thats Jesus.

In level one the people follow because they have to in order to get paid. In level 2 people follow because they want to follow and i have been on both sides of that following because i have to and follow because i truly want to and the effort and focus does change as well as the willingness to do more as in go above and beyond. Another thing that stuck out to me was servanthood loving to serve as our Pastor has talked about many times.
I find it very easy to follow a leader that leads by example as stated in level 3. It is hard to follow someone that wants to send you where they never been or to do something they never done. When i think about that i think about a marriage counselor that never been married its just foolish.

The developing stage of leadership the key is putting people on the right postion to suceed. Its important for leaders to put the people that follow them in a postion to flourish. I like when he said if you out of position you will never reach you potential. Everyone has to follow before they can lead and most learn from the people they encounter and work with to become a better and more effective leader.

  3. The Five levels of Leadership
When I think of leadership I think of managers and supervisors in the work field, however leadership is also in the church. As people of God we are all called to lead and to go forward in the great commission and that is to teach the gospel to the unchurched. Jesus was one of the greatest leaders we could ever come across. In this video John teaches us the five levels of leadership that could truly bless in the natural and spiritually.
Level One: is the position level and in this level is it when you just step into this leadership role meaning people will only follow you because of you title. Though one may be in this position it does not make them a great leader but it is important that we take the time to develop in the different areas of leadership. The downside of a level one leader is that people who follow you will give you the least amount of their energy and effort, they follow you just because that’s how they get their checks.
Level Two: Permission level, people follow you because they want to. You have connected with them and they like you and you like them. You’re a supervisor that people like. Relationships with people are the foundation of leadership, you build your leadership off of relationships. You have to have the ability to get along with people. They have a servant mindset and love to serve. When I thought about this I thought about being a child of God. We should be personable, friendly and most importantly loving people. It is not enough to just give orders and not relate to the people who work with you. When we show people we can relate and care for them they are more apt to respond and do things because they want to be a good worker and want to please the people they work for. So we must value others and connect(relate) to them to be effective in leadership. Level two leaders listen well, observe well, and they are always learning. Christ won many over because he related to them and displayed love and kindness.
Level Three: The production level, they get results. They help the bottom line of the company doing what it takes for see the company grow and fulfill its mission. This leader is effective as a leader because they are not only good at being on task being productive, but even more the value their people and help the to produce. As a level three leader you are influential by being the example to those who follow you. Jesus he had the twelve disciples and he did many things on his own then he taught the disciples by demonstrating what was needed to be done.
Level four: The People developing level flows right along with the production stage in leadership. It is investing in someone, teaching them, leading and developing them to becoming what you are. Jesus recruited the twelve disciples, he knew who was good for the job even Judas of Iscariot had a purpose. Jesus learned them and knew of them their strengths as well as their weaknesses. In the same way we as leaders we must possess the qualities we desire to see and expect in others when it comes to knowing who to recruit for the job. Secondly, spend time learning their strengths and develop them all the more. Otherwise they will never see their true potential focusing on what they are not good at. Train well. After Jesus had completed his mission investing in his followers he then tells them to do what he did and make disciples.
Level five: The pinnacle level is when you gain respect from your followers and they follow you because you have set and upheld the standard of a great leader. So they follow you because of the demonstration. Leadership is ongoing and you are always learning how to be better. I must say I feel that I have a lot to learn from John on how to grow as a leader.

  4. I really enjoyed the wisdom that John Maxwell shared about leadership. He said a lot of good things and really broke it down and made it easy to understand. Although this information he provided was geared toward business leaders in the corporate world, this information can be easily beneficial for leaders in the church. in the Level one the Positional Level, John made it clear that it is just not enough to have a title and it dose not mean that you have become a leader, the only thing you have is the right for people to follow you because of your title. This is so true, most people in the church only delights in carrying the title and being recognized but they have no clue of what it means to lead with the title or have no delight to truly lead.

Level two was the Permission Level, this was really good and I feel is probably the most important level of them all; I don't think you can even consider yourself a good leader if you can't build and maintain relationships with people. As a Christian leader you must be approachable, but you may not always be likable when your handling the truth correctly and your exposing the sin in people's lives but the people alt to know it's done out of love and your sincere desire for them to have a successful relationship with God. You must show people that you care by doing what John said which is listening to them, observing and praying for them and taking the initiative to encourage them, and learning while being a servant.

Level three was Production level, John said it well and made it known that you must lead by example if your going to be productive yourself and motivate others to be productive. Level four was People development, I believe as leaders in the church we must find someone to mentor, disciple and pour into and we must be able to identify the gifts, talents of individuals and encourage them, pray for them to be all that God wants them to be in that area. Level five was the Pinnacle, when I think of this level I think of Pastor and Co-Pastor, I respect them very much and follow their lead because they have been great examples and have shown us how to walk this faith in every aspect of our lives.

  5. I enjoyed listening to the video because I could see myself in the video from leadership stand point. I think that listening to it me and other people get stuck at level one of leadership and don't get better. We have to learn to build strong relationships like discussed in level two leadership. One of the huge keys I like is learning serve and LOVING to serve. If you don't love it cant really show your sincere about building relationship.

During level three Maxwell mentioned that people do what they see. You are able to model production to people that will produce production when they see it. We ultimately have to have the qualities that we would people to display. You put in what you want to get out of people.

The people production level the biggest key in my eyes. We must be able to look at the qualities of people and position them where they can enhance their production because they are using their strengths. When we do that is build peoples confidence and willingness to work. I like what he mentioned about his coach telling him, "No matter how talented you are if your out of position you will never reach your potential." Level 5 is where many people think they are went they are at level 1. Many people think that people follow them because they want to when it is really because they have to.

  6. Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill, regarding the ability of an individual or organization to "lead" or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations. Leadership was broken into five separate levels by Mr. John C. Maxwell.

Starting with the first level, labeled the “Position level”, which is a person who is placed in a place of leadership. A person who is not a leader yet, just a person who has the title of a person who is a leader. Where the people who are under this person are forced to follow this person’s instructions because of the person title. Now that is the downside of the beginning stage of leadership which is out of this person’s control, but in this “Position level” this is when you shape and define your leadership qualities.

Level two of leadership is called the “Relationship” level, a person who listens, observe and learns. These qualities helps a great leader grow beyond their title that one may have been granted, it grows the person into a person who develops an attitude of servant hood. Which shows any person that you are trying to lead that care, and builds trust from all those that you have authority over. Which bleeds right into the next level of leadership, which is labeled the “Production” level.

Level four is the development level. Where you grow the people you are leading, where you show them what a clear cut leader look like. Placing these people in the correct position for them to succeed. Where it starts with the recruitment stage, which leads to positioning and ends with equipping for success. Now when you excel at this leadership level you move onto the “Pinnacle” level is when you gain respect from your followers and they follow you because you have set and upheld the standard of a great leader.

This message from John C. Maxell allowed me to really examine my own level of leadership, which showed me where I truly stand as an effective leader, but also it allowed me to see where our Sr. Pastor stands as a truly great leader! Now I am going to study these five levels of leadership and become a student of great leadership!

  7. Leadership is not a noun its an verb an action word! Once we understand to move up to level five of leadership we will expand our influence and our effectiveness for the Kingdom of God and start to see lives being changed, lives being impacted for His glory! I can not wait to place these principles of leadership into practice!

Thank you Pastor Burrows for your hard work and dedication to His will!
